That confirmation is more meaningful than it sounds. With Audi’s parent company Volkswagen Group under severe financial pressure, models have been getting axed. The Q4 E-Tron staying in America — with a meaningful update for 2027 — signals that Audi sees a future for affordable electric SUVs in this market despite the turbulence.
What’s Actually New for 2027
The update is a genuine refresh, not a sticker-change. The exterior gets a redesigned front end that brings the Q4 E-Tron in line with Audi’s current design language — the same narrow-blade headlights and wider grille treatment you see on the 2026 Q3 and updated A4. The rear lighting has been refreshed to match. 
Inside, the bigger story is technology. The 2027 Q4 E-Tron debuts Audi’s updated infotainment system — faster processor, cleaner interface, and native integration with Google built-in services including Google Maps, Assistant, and the Play Store. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard across all trims, fixing a previous omission that frustrated buyers.
The driver assistance suite has been upgraded with more capable highway assist and improved automatic emergency braking that now handles cyclists and pedestrians in low-light conditions — an important safety addition that brings it closer to the benchmark set by Hyundai and Kia.

Powertrain stays largely unchanged: rear-wheel drive base models produce 201 horsepower with around 265 miles of EPA range. All-wheel drive models make 295 horsepower with 255 miles of range. These numbers are competitive but not class-leading — the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 both offer more range at similar or lower prices.
Maximum DC fast charging is 175 kW — an improvement over the previous 135 kW — but still behind the Ioniq 5’s 350 kW 800-volt system. For daily charging and the occasional road trip, 175 kW is workable. For frequent long-distance travel, it requires more patience.
The Tariff Situation Is Complicated
Here’s the issue that every potential Q4 E-Tron buyer needs to understand right now.
The Q4 E-Tron is built at Volkswagen’s Zwickau plant in Germany. That means it’s subject to the 25% EU auto tariff that Trump announced effective next week. Audi has not yet announced how it plans to handle this cost — whether through price increases, absorbed margin, or production shifts.
VW Group’s Chattanooga, Tennessee plant builds the Atlas and ID.4 but not the Q4 E-Tron. Until and unless Audi shifts Q4 production to an American facility, buyers of this vehicle are exposed to tariff-driven pricing uncertainty.
For now: Q4 E-Tron models in dealer inventory were imported before the new rate. Those are the safe buys at current pricing. New orders after the tariff takes effect may carry higher prices.

Should You Buy One — Or Wait for Something Better? 
The Q4 E-Tron occupies an awkward position in 2026. It’s a genuinely good electric SUV — comfortable, well-built, easy to live with, and carrying the Audi badge at a starting price around $47,000. But it’s not the best electric SUV at its price.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 at $35,000 offers more range, faster charging, and domestic manufacturing without the tariff risk. The Kia EV6 at a similar price to the Q4 delivers more performance. The Genesis GV60 offers comparable luxury feel with faster charging.
The honest case for buying a Q4 E-Tron: You specifically want an Audi. The badge and interior refinement matter to you. You’re not buying based purely on spec comparisons. And you want to lock in current dealer inventory pricing before new tariff costs filter through.
The case for waiting: If you can be flexible on brand, the Ioniq 5 and EV6 offer more EV capability for less money. The Mercedes CLA Electric at $47,250 with 320 kW charging is a legitimate premium alternative at the same price point.
The 2027 Q4 E-Tron update is a real improvement on a solid vehicle. Just know what you’re buying — and check whether it was imported before or after the 25% tariff takes effect.
